Permits & Site Prep
Good preparation protects the product, the property, and the people using it. Requirements vary by location and product, so confirm the details before ordering or beginning work.
Check Local Requirements
Contact the local building or planning department to determine whether permits, inspections, engineering documents, zoning approval, or setback rules apply. If your property is governed by a homeowners association, review its requirements as well.
Choose and Measure the Site
- Confirm the finished exterior dimensions and required working clearances.
- Allow safe access for delivery, assembly, maintenance, doors, vents, and service connections.
- Consider drainage, grade, wind exposure, snow accumulation, trees, roof runoff, and neighboring property lines.
- Verify that the selected product's ratings are appropriate for local conditions.
Prepare a Suitable Base
Structures generally require a level, stable, properly drained base. Foundation type and anchoring requirements differ by product and local code. Follow the manufacturer instructions and use qualified help when the site or structure requires it.
Locate Utilities
Before digging, driving anchors, placing footings, or trenching, contact 811 and any applicable local utility-locating service. Independently identify private lines, irrigation, septic components, and other systems that public utility locating may not mark.
Electrical and Plumbing Work
Permanent wiring, transfer equipment, gas connections, and plumbing may require permits and licensed professionals. Never connect equipment in a way that conflicts with the manufacturer instructions or applicable codes.
Find a Pro
The YardSpace Co. does not issue permits or perform installation. You can use Thumbtack to find independent local professionals; services are arranged directly with the professional you choose.
